Sonatas for Violin and Piano N° 4, 5, 6
Mieczyslaw Weinberg
In the first part of this series on sonatas for violin, we explored the three first essays by Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996). In the last three sonatas, the composer seem to give us some very personal messages in a perfectly mastered form, both very dense and free.

Mieczysław Weinberg
An Odyssey of Terrors and the Maturing Sonatas of Mieczysław Weinberg
Ten, fifteen years ago, only connoisseurs knew who Mieczysław Weinberg was. The likes of David Fanning, Per Skans, Tommy Persson, Martin Anderson, or Robert Reilly (in “Surprised by Beauty: A Listener’s Guide to the Recovery of Modern Music”) introduced him passionately to a small but growing audience. Now Weinberg has become the poster-boy for a truly great but neglected composer enjoying a renaissance.
